Birthday Blessings

Oprah, I know for sure that your staff/producers must know who I am by now.  The response to my birthday blessing’s post was amazing. I certainly felt an overwhelming love and encouragement from the many, many comments, e-mails, and phone calls I’ve received. It would be fun to know how many of the 460 individuals that took the time to read, “Finding Closure” actually sent you a letter on my behalf. I am very grateful for all their kindness.

This profound experience kept making me think about the confused stranger who stands on a bridge ready to take his or her own life and what a difference we could make in this world, if we just took more time to say, “I care.” I believe there are tough chapters in each of our personal journeys that we may question if the quote, “God never gives us more than we can handle,” could possibly be true. But I can look back and can see where I have held on by faith alone in Jesus Christ through the painful struggles in my life.

Lately, I have been asked a number of times, “Well, have you heard from her yet?”

Oprah, I am not really expecting you to personally call me. But I’m still hoping for a miracle. I pray someone at Harpo Productions will pass on my request to one of your generous contacts who can help me to finally put an end to way too many lies, secrets, and deception.

Over the years, I’ve been told the mystery surrounding my beginnings and ongoing quest for truth would make good Oprah material. My pat answer has always been, “I would like the chance to meet you not as a celebrity, but rather as a friend.” You are an influential woman that has shown others we can move mountains by our perseverance. I dream of the day that I can obtain a passport and accomplish my deepest desire—to travel to an orphanage in a foreign country. For me, to continue holding children in my arms and helping them to see their voices truly matter gives purpose for my being and that love did indeed win out in the end.
